Activities

As the international umbrella organization the IVAA (International Federation of Anthroposophic Medical Associations) represents and coordinates the national Anthroposophic Doctors´ Associations on European and international level in regard to political and legal concerns.

In 201 the IVAA has 32 member organizations: in 16 EU member states (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Italy, Latvia, Austria, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden) as well as Norway and Switzerland, and in a further 16 countries worldwide (Argentinia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, India, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Georgia, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine, USA).

Anthroposophic doctors practise also in 5 further EU member states (Bulgaria, Eire, Hungary, Lithuania and Portugal) and in more than 30 further countries worldwide.

The areas of work of the IVAA include:

  • Safeguarding the legal status of anthroposophic medicine, anthroposophic medical products (AMP) and anthroposophic therapies in order to:

    • guarantee the availability of medicinal products on the market, necessary for an anthroposophic treatment

    • guarantee the accessibility of other anthroposophic treatments as art therapy, eurythmy therapy etc.

  • Safeguarding pluralism in medicine with regard to:

    • rights of patients to use the treatment of their choice

    • rights of doctors to offer the best available treatment for their patients

  •

Educational and post-graduate training issues as well as the co-ordination of research projects are not primary issues for the IVAA. However the IVAA may get involved, if medico-legal affairs or political discussion are affected by these activities.

In working for pluralism in medicine the IVAA is in close co-operation with other organisations who are engaged in this issue.
