IVAA and ELIANT

The “ELIANT” Alliance was founded in 2006 through initiatives of applied Anthroposophy in the fields of agriculture, nutrition, medicine and education. The aim of ELIANT is to strengthen the presence of Anthroposophic viewpoints in the political discourse and at the policy-making level in Europe. The principles and working mechanism of ELIANT are laid down in the ELIANT Charter. The name ELIANT intentionally makes reference to the word "anthroposophy", to show clearly what ELIANT stands for in Europe. The practical activities of ELIANT concentrate on supporting the European engagement of its member-organizations. ELIANT is a “non-governmental-organization” (NGO) and co-operates with other like-minded NGOs at the European level.

With these objectives, ELIANT provides “added value” to demonstrate that Anthroposophic views and values are esteemed not only by a minority but by hundreds of thousands of citizens in Europe and worldwide. As a major initial project, ELIANT started a campaign to gather as many supporting signatures as possible for this Alliance from European citizens and worldwide. With this campaign ELIANT created a basis for its presence and activity as a European NGO. By the end of 2010, one million citizens have expressed their support for ELIANT with their signatures. These one million signatures were presented to the EU Commission together with a Memorandum with particular Anthroposophic viewpoints on specific aspects of EU policies as a form of a “Citizens Initiative” in spring 2011.

To guarantee a pluralistic approach to life in the societies of the EU – a prerequisite for our engagement - basic values need to be in force. With the Treaty of Lisbon, the “Charter of Fundamental Rights” has binding legal status in the Union. The ELIANT Charter expressly appeals to the plurality enshrined in this Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The IVAA is a founding member of ELIANT and regards the Alliance an ideal platform to support the political objectives of the IVAA, to contribute to its presence, and to strengthen its impact.
