Activities of the IVAA
The main field of activities of the IVAA is the representation of anthroposophic medicine worldwide with respect to medico-legal affairs.
As a corporate body the IVAA functions as umbrella organisation for the national anthroposophic doctors associations worldwide.
The areas of work of the IVAA include:
- Representation of the national anthroposophic doctors associations on an international level regarding medico-legal affairs
- Co-ordination of activities of national anthroposophic doctors associations on an international level with regard to medico-legal affairs
- Safeguarding the legal status of anthroposophic medicine
- Communication with politicians and representatives of administrations and health authorities on an international level
- Preparation of educational, training and research issues for discussion with politicians and health authorities.
Educational and post-graduate training issues as well as the co-ordination of research projects are not primary issues for the IVAA. However the IVAA may get involved, if medico-legal affairs or political discussion are affected by these activities.
The protection of pluralism in medicine is a major factor in securing anthroposophic medicine within the medico-legal framework in the following areas:
- rights of patients to use the treatment of their choice
- rights of doctors to offer the best available treatment for their patients
- guarantee the availability of medicinal products on the market, necessary for an anthroposophic treatment
- guarantee the accessibility of other anthroposophic treatments as art therapy, eurythmy therapy etc.
In working for pluralism in medicine the IVAA is in close co-operation with other organisations who are engaged in this issue.
In the representation of anthroposophic medicine worldwide the IVAA is part of the Medical Section of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum.
